Outbound Training Program : Onmobile

Being the pioneers in conducting highly effective Employee Engagement Programs in Northern India, particularly in Delhi & NCR, ZICE rolled out their Engagement initiatives towards South. In first such execution ZICE executed well planned and objective based (Team Building, Motivation, Leadership) engagement session for OnMobile in the luxurious ambiance of Pragati Resorts at Hyderabad. As a part of their PAN INDIA Rollout, ZICE is executing countrywide employee engagement programs for OnMobile at many locations other than Hyderabad like Mumbai, Gurgaon etc.

The engagement session lasted for 4 Hrs and started with creative energizers and ice breakers which resulted in initial gelling and bringing all the participants at the level where they are willing to contribute voluntarily. Ice breaking was soon followed by team formation activity in which participants came up with highly creative team names, team slogans and team insignia. That also helped in bringing up the energy level as they shouted their respective team names and slogans.

To harness that enthusiasm the team synchronization activity (Hoopla Down) tested participants at their coordination and ability to work in teams. Later the activities like Dragon Tail, Namesake, and Murder Mystery enhanced the engagement and witnessed great deal of participation in activities demanding talent, teamwork, analytical skills, leadership, motivation, strategy, planning and execution.

One best thing that facilitators witnessed this time was the great deal of interest and support by the coordinators from OnMobile, Ms. Seema & Ms. Shikha who also assisted in effective execution of all the activities and facilitated the program towards memorable execution. Such assistance and facilitation in the long run is going to help respective HR to manage Inhouse Employee Engagement Interventions.

So employees at OnMobile head office, Hyderabad got fully engaged, now it’s time to move to Gurgaon.

How To Write LinkedIn Recommendations

How To Write LinkedIn Recommendations :

Following are the recommendations on my LinkedIn profile. Graded from the most effective to the least [ with apologies to people who gave me the recommendations that I have classified as least effective - this post is intended to be an "average" or "what works for the majority" and while I totally love all the recommendations on my LinkedIn profile, all of them might not work for most people who have profiles on LinkedIn ].

Category I : Most effective

Naina did an exceptional job on the LinkedIn India logo. Her conception, wonderful work flow, creativity and understanding of change requests made the project a dream. I would highly recommend her to anyone anywhere in the world. She knows how to work from a distance. [ Direct client. Emphasizes my niche : working remotely with clients from all over the globe and still delivering top-notch quality. ]
I recently asked Naina to design a logo for LinkedIn Socially on Yahoo Groups. Naina not only exceeded the brief, but gave group members a valuable insight to her thinking & methodology by blogging the evolution. I found Naina to be friendly, articulate & a great person to work with & would recommend her to anyone looking for web design briefs to be delivered on time with the minimum of fuss. [ Direct client. Talks about me as a person as well as service/product qualities. ]
Naina is a joy to work with. She handled our Web page assignment with aplomb and diligence, displaying the ability to follow creative direction while adding her own creative input in a diplomatic and useful way. Her work led to an increase in click-throughs. I recommend her to anyone who needs design and Website work. [ Direct client. ]

Naina is one of the brightest and most talented people I’ve had the pleasure of working with and has an amazing ability to work virtually. She is an accomplished writer, a talented graphic designer and has great depth of understanding of innovation and what it takes for organizations to create an environment that supports innovation. She is truly an amazing resource. [ Direct Client. Talks about all my skills and services and more. ]

Category II : Effective

Naina is highly creative and a very easy-going person to work with. Within the LinkedIn community, I have seen many examples of her work. As an Independent Contractor or as an employee, you will find Naina makes a great addition to your team! It is an honor for me to recommend and endorse her. [ Worked together on pro bono projects, not direct client. Very confident language, crisp and concise. ]
After just a brief discussion with Naina about a new networking concept she pulled together the branding and identity and delivered a result that blew us all away. A very innovative and savvy business woman and a first-class networker. Thanks, Naina!

[ Direct client. But does not talk about exact project worked on. ]

Category III : Least effective

-She is Better than the Best for -Logo- designing & Creativity.- . [ Met a couple of times, had fantastic business-related conversations, loved my portfolio, never worked together. ]
I haven’t really worked with Naina. But I had no other way of telling you to check out her site. If the LOGO’s were potato chips I would have eaten every one of them. They are AMAZING!! [ Never met, never spoken, never worked together. Very impressed with my portfolio, lots of praise - but no REAL basis and starts with a negative of "haven't really worked..." ]

The following is NOT a recommendation:

To the best of my knowledge Naina is a Management Consultant providing her services at name-of-company. I take this opportunity to wish her all the success. [ B-School classmate, never worked together, didn't know what I was doing at this particular company - not displayed on LinkedIn profile. ]

Factors that make or break a LinkedIn recommendation are as follows :

Whether you have actually WORKED with the person?
Whether they have actually DELIVERED a product / service to you?
Were you truly HAPPY with their product / service / dealings?
Whether you have actually MET this person?
Whether you would be comfortable recommending this persons’ services to your own company / family / best friend?
Punctuation / language and spellings.
Why are you making the recommendation in the first place?
If the person had a fall-out with you tomorrow, what would you do?

The best tip I can offer about writing a recommendation for someone on LinkedIn is to Talk about specifics : imagine you are reading someone’s recommendation and figure out what you would want to know about them as a prospective client / prospective business partner / prospective employer / prospective employee and then write your recommendation.

Tell the third person what you like about this person you are recommending, support it with a reason [ because they were nice to you / because they delivered fantastic quality / because they delivered with fantastic speed / because they delivered with fantastic analysis ], and give additional support by sharing your relationship with them [ if you haven't met them - say so, if the person being recommended is your wife/husband - say so, if you have worked with the person for 15 years - say so ]. If you haven’t met them and are still making the recommendation, DO NOT start the recommendation with “I have never met/worked with so-and-so…” - leave it for the end.
Of course each case is different, each person’s writing style as well the job profile of the person being recommended are all varied - the above is only meant to create some semblance.

When I ask my clients from endorsements/testimonials - and those clients are not on LinkedIn, I send them a PDF file, which has all LinkedIn recommendations and ask them to formulate something similar.

What Motivates Youth ?

WHAT MOTIVATES YOUTH ?

DKnox has said Personalization, Self Expression and Community. I completely agree with him.

COMMUNITY  While today's youth want to stand out and express their individuality, they also strive to feel connected with each other (both locally and globally).  This community is created by shared experiences and constant communication (IM, texting, Facebook).

My personal experience has been very positive about it. Brands which are primarily driven by emotions can make a great impact here. So do politicians ( case : OBAMA )

PERSONALIZATION  Today's youth demand control. They are used to customizing and personalizing everything in their lives.  They demand products and services that suit their moods and want to live in an on-demand world that they can control.

EG: www.jonessoda.com

SELF-EXPRESSION  In the hands of Gen Y, brands get articulated in more ways than the brand itself could ever imagine. Gen Y doesn't wait for permission to morph a brand. They are constantly seeking ways to have their voices heard and put their stamp of self-expression on products.  Brands can become a badge for what they stand for.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit

The Entrepreneurial Spirit:

what does it consist of ...?? my thoughts shared below

1) i.we
2) i(e)rratic
3) irrational
4) illogical
5) insane

i.we is what defines .. the spirit.. coz an entrepreneur who could see his ( i ) point of view thru others ( we ).. can clearly set the tables burning.

how much should one consume?

how much should one consume?

this question has been baffling me since quite some time..

i have written my views in quotes below mid-2007 when there was money all around

"consumerism has been a boon to all the retail big wigs around the world. and yes it has got indians flight of fancy too. my question is how much is too much? the ugly head is excessive consumerism in simple words people buying too many things than they require. this is the new age junk mind set. the upside is retailers making more money. the downside is ... guess its a long list. it has a huge impact on the eco system. by buying more we are creating a divide... so how do we stop it?"

unwind to the present ... we are in midst of a economic crisis... my view hasnt changed much. i was in one of the gurgaon malls .. SALE SALE SALE was written all over... to my surprise people were buying in hoards as if there is no tomorrow...

i asked couple of the shoppers why were they buying in excess.... the answer ... sasta hain "its cheap in english" huh .... the inner guilt has clearly been greed.... this is what drives excessive consumerism...

and the divide continues

any body has anwers for this ???

hyderabad ahoy 2

my operations team was excited about their on the ground reports from hyderabad. as luck would have it we have first hand information from Andhra Pradesh Government that they have identified adventure as a key driver of toursim. ( pure coincidence )

follow your dreams and the world will pave way for you. it cant get better than this.

hyderabad ahoy!

hyderabad ahoy!

we have successfully conducted our first adventure offsite in hyderabad. client [ not satyam... :) ] dr. reddy labs.

on the ground reports suggest that the participants received our offering very well. it is indeed a proud moment for me to execute in hyderabad as i am a hyderabadi.

now the day is not far where zice holidays will scale up operations in hyderabad, andhra pradesh.

iit kanpur : my learnings

i was invited to adjudicate at iit kanpur for their business festival [ jan 7 to 9' 2009 ]. this festival saw some of the best folks from various b-schools competing for the business plan award.

[ this indeed was zice holidays first at iit.]

it was a humbling experience for me as some of them came up with out of the box ideas which running businesses can implement.

also the level of enthusiasm about the winning team was infectious. i guess in order to succeed as an entrepreneur one has to have infectious energy. hard times like these need young and enterprising folks with such energy.

so bottom line e-n-e-r-g-y is a necessary prerequisite.

a thought on quality

An excerpt from “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” sums it up well- “You have to be awfully stylish yourself not to get sick of it once in a while. It’s the style that gets you: technological ugliness syruped over with romantic phoniness in an effort to produce beauty and profit by people who, though stylish, don’t know where to start because no one has ever told them there’s such a thing as Quality in this world and it’s real, not style. Quality isn’t something that you lay on top of subjects and objects like tinsel on a Christmas tree. Real Quality must be the source of the subjects and objects, the cone from which the tree must start”.
